The follicle collection procedure
When you visit our Dallas Genesis Lifestyle Medicine branch, we first check your hair transplant requirements. Then we test your scalp health to check if you have healthy hair follicles that can be transplanted. During the consultation, we will also check the texture, shape, and direction of growth of your existing hair to determine the correct placement for implantation.
Once you are eligible for the treatment, we first shave a tiny portion of your hair so that we have unobstructed access to the donor site. Only the section from where we collect the follicles will be shaved, and in such a way that this patch is not visible to anyone who may look at your scalp. Then we use the handheld Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) device to harvest healthy hair follicles.
Usually, compatible hair follicles are found at the base of the scalp and nape of the neck. No strip of skin is removed during this micrograft procedure. While this procedure is not as painful as the surgical graft, we do provide a localized anesthetic to numb the region.
