Areola Tattooing at Genesis Lifestyle Medicine
About 13% of U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in their lives. Being treated for breast cancer involves a long and difficult process. If you are a breast cancer survivor, you are a true hero. As part of your treatment, you may have had to undergo either unilateral or bilateral mastectomy.
Unfortunately, the struggle does not end there. If you've been having difficulty regaining your confidence, you may have already begun exploring your options for breast reconstruction and 3d nipple tattoo in Dallas. The final step of that process is having one or both of your nipples tattooed following your mastectomy.
What is areola tattooing?
Areola tattooing is a procedure that restores the color of your nipple back to its original tint, creating the illusion of a natural tone and texture.
Areola tattooing can also be performed in combination with scar camouflage to give you the closest appearance possible to your natural breast look.
How is areola tattooing performed?
Your Dallas Genesis Lifestyle Medicine provider will perform your areola tattooing through the use of something called the IQ device. Manufactured by Nouveau Contour, the IQ device can create as many as 150 needle insertions every second.
After first numbing your skin with a topical anesthetic, your aesthetician will use the IQ device to deposit pigments under your skin. However, unlike conventional tattoos, the deposited pigments are only placed into the surface layers of your skin. Eventually, the pigmented cells will be replaced by unpigmented ones; at that point, you would need a touch-up treatment.
Areola Tattooing Recovery
Areola tattooing does involve some minor breaking of the skin's surface, so there is some degree of recovery involved.
First Two Days
Expect some redness and swelling for the first two days after your areola tattooing. If it has not subsided by the fifth day, contact your provider.
You may also notice some degree of pain and tenderness. Your provider will advise you if a painkiller is recommended.
If the area is oozing, clean it by gently blotting it.
Days 3-7
Scabbing will have developed over the treated skin, which may feel tight and itchy. Avoid picking at the scabs. Discomfort can be relieved through the use of a moisturizer.
Days 7-14
The scab from your 3d nipple tattoo in Dallas will peel away. The process may take up to one week. As mentioned earlier, avoid picking at the flakes and scabs. Let them fall away on their own. Until then, the scabs serve as a type of natural bandage to protect the sensitive skin developing underneath.
Days 15-40
Although the surface area may appear fully healed, some internal healing is still going on underneath, which could take up to seven weeks. At that time, you may schedule a follow-up appointment to check on your progress.
