Signs of neuropathy
Neuropathy can occur on either one nerve (mononeuropathy) or affect multiple nerves (polyneuropathy).
You may have neuropathy if you experience the following symptoms for more than a week at a stretch:
- Sharp tingling, pulling, burning, and cramping in your arms or legs
- Loss of feeling and inability to feel heat or cold
- Extreme sensitivity to touch, followed by pain
- Loss of coordination
- Extreme muscle weakness
- Jabbing pain when you cover your arms or legs with clothes/blankets
- Sensation of having your feet or arms covered with socks (due to numbness)
- Temporary paralysis in the affected limb
- Sudden changes in blood sugar
- Clammy hands and sweaty feet
- Disruption in bowel movement (if the damaged nerves connect to your bowels)
